March Movie Digest

Here are the movies for the past month.

Chronicle

Acting: 3.5/5
Story: 4/5
Perception: 2.5/5
Rating: 3/5

A dynamic movie with an interesting core and some clever subtle moments. I occasionally got involved in the character's struggle, but the "found-footage" style made it less appealing for me.

The Kids Are All Right

Acting: 3.5/5
Story: 2.5/5
Perception: 2.5/5
Rating: 2.5/5

The idea behind the movie had potential but the final result was disappointing. In spite of the generally good acting, the story is quite dull. A part from the 'less ordinary' central characters and several emotional/funny moments everything else is surrounded by banality; the militancy through common family situations cliches doesn't do any good to the movie.

Drive

Acting: 4/5
Story: 3.5/5
Perception: 3/5
Rating: 3.5/5

Good thriller with a dazzling performance by Gosling. Too bad that the tensions build-up was based on awkward moments of extended silence; often accompanied in my case by a 'Say something already!' feeling. There were some violent episodes that balanced in an almost frighteningly good way the general 'heavy serenity'. A bonus thumbs up for the score.

The Hunger Games

Acting: 4/5
Story: 4/5
Perception: 4/5
Rating: 3.5/5

A dynamic movie that makes you get involved and root for the main character, who by the way, delivers a convincing performance, which is also the case for the rest of the cast (with special props for Tucci and Harrelson). Moreover, there is a good balance between emotion and action. On the downside, there are some logic/explanation issues related to the level of technology and its fruits through out the film, and some character development details that seem rushed over. Anyway, I am interested to see how it will all evolve for the next installments.
